Just a reminder that EOG testing will begin next week for students on Tracks 2, 3, & 4. The first test day will be Tuesday, June 11. Please make sure your student gets a good night's rest, has breakfast, and arrives to school on time as testing begins promptly each school day.
 
Students on Tracks 2, 3, & 4 can take advantage of free breakfast on Tuesday, June 11 and Wednesday, June 12 as part of the WCPSS initiative to ensure that students have a healthy, nutritious breakfast prior to testing.
 
DRESS CODE ALERT - It is spring and the weather is quite warm. Please help us by making sure that your student is following the school dress when choosing what he or she wears when coming to school each day.

Year-end Awards Programs
Each year-end awards program for students in grades 6 and 7 will be held in the cafeteria on June 28th.

*Track 6-3, 8:30 a.m.
*Track 6-4, 9:30 a.m. 
*Track 7-3, 10:30 a.m. 
*Track 7-4, 11:45 a.m. 
* Parents of students receiving awards will receive invitations.
 
 

2013-2014 Information

As our new school year approaches, look to the Guidance link above, or the buttons on the right for updated information on supply lists and rising 6th grade support

Schedule pick-up for 2013-14 school year is as follows.
During this time parents may also take care of lunch accounts, check bus schedules, purchase PE outfits and student handbooks, join PTA, etc.
 
Schedule pick-up for Tracks 1-2-3 will be July 2, 4-6 p.m.
(6th grade students will have an opportunity to go to pod area and meet teachers). 
Schedule pick-up for Track 4 will be July 25, 4-6 p.m. (6th grade students will have an opportunity to go to pod area and meet teachers). 
 
Open House/Meet-the-Teachers Evening for 2013-14 School Year:
Tracks 1-2-3 will be July 18, from 6-8 p.m., 6th grade will run from 6:00-7:30 p.m. and 7th & 8th grade will run from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Track 4 will be August 8, from 6-8 p.m., 6th grade will run from 6:00-7:30 p.m. and 7th & 8th grade will run from 6:30-8:00 p.m.

As teachers make updates to supply lists, these files will be changed. Staff and team assignments will be posted under the Staff link the week of July 1st. All new information will be finalized and posted during the first week of July.

 

Yearbooks

Did you miss the deadline for online yearbook sales?  There are a limited number of yearbooks available for purchase at this time.  The price is $35, and you can turn in your payment to the front office.  Make checks payable to LRMS.  Buy now so you can receive your yearbook with your team!  Contact your team leader or Ms. Anderson (kanderson1@wcpss.net) if you are not sure if you bought one yet.

N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences Launches Video Production/TV Program for Teens

The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences is launching a new program for teens interested in video production and television. This program will enable teens to showcase their talents and skills in TV and multimedia broadcasting. Highly skilled professionals will instruct and mentor students in order to produce quality science-themed segments that will be available to the public. This multifaceted multimedia program will build students' skills in communication, teamwork, and networking while students gain real-world experience in production and broadcasting. Prior technical knowledge and skills are recommended but are not necessary.

Testing
Our first round of year-end assessments begin this Friday, May 10 with MSLs in Social Studies for all Track 1 students, grades 6-8. EOG testing for Track 1 will begin the week of May 13. Track 1 students in grades 6 & 7 will take their Science MSL on Thursday, May 16. Please refer to the Lufkin website for testing dates for all tracks. We encourage students get a good night's sleep prior to testing and eat a nutritious breakfast before coming to school.  

Friday, May 10 is our last early release day. Students will be dismissed at 12:15.   

National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony will be Wednesday, May 8.
 
May 6-10 is Teacher Appreciation Week. Our PTA will be recognizing our dedicated teachers with an item Monday- Thursday and honor them with a luncheon on Friday, May 10. 

School Nutrition Employee Week is May 6-10. Lufkin's cafeteria staff works hard every day to ensure that nutritious items are available for our students and staff and they do so with pride and joy.

Wednesday, May 8 is School Nurse Day. Thank you to these wonderful individuals!  

On Thursday, May 9, Lufkin Road Middle School teacher, Jennie Jones, Healthful Living/PE Department will be recognized at the WCPSS Teacher of the Year (TOY) Banquet. Ms. Jones was selected as the TOY for Lufkin Road earlier this year by her peers. We congratulate her on this honor! 

Friday, May 17 is the 8th Grade Awards Program and Dance. Festivities begin at 6:00 p.m.; students should report to school by 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 17 Lufkin will hold the HOPE Games for the 2nd year. This is a wonderful event. We are proud of our students for supporting this great cause. Volunteers are still needed.
